Digital Experience Designer — EōN by Jean-Michel Jarre
EōN — A Living Generative Music Experience
EōN is a generative music application developed in close collaboration with electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre. Conceived as a living composition rather than a traditional album, the app produces a continuous, ever-evolving stream of music and visuals. No two moments are identical. The experience unfolds in real time, shaped by an underlying algorithmic system that ensures constant variation and perpetual motion.
Working directly with Jarre, I was involved from early concept discussions through to the shaping of the final digital experience. Together, we explored how generative sound could be translated into an intuitive and emotionally resonant interface. The challenge was not simply to design a music player, but to create a digital environment that felt alive — a space where users could experience music as a dynamic, evolving presence.
Concept & Creative Direction
The foundation of EōN was the idea of infinity — a composition without beginning or end. This required rethinking traditional interaction models. Instead of tracks, timelines, or fixed navigation patterns, the interface had to communicate flow, immersion, and subtle control. The design language was intentionally minimal and atmospheric, allowing the music and visuals to remain central while the interface gently guided interaction.
In collaboration with Jarre, we defined:
- The emotional tone and artistic vision of the app
- How users should “enter” and engage with a continuously evolving soundscape
- The balance between control and surrender — offering interaction without interrupting immersion
Interaction & Experience Design
I designed the visual system and interaction patterns to reflect the organic nature of the music. Motion, transitions, and visual feedback were carefully crafted to feel fluid and responsive rather than mechanical. The interface avoids traditional UI density, instead embracing space, light, and subtle animation to create a calm, meditative environment.
Particular attention was given to:
- Designing a seamless onboarding flow into an experience with no defined start or finish
- Creating interaction models that support exploration without distraction
- Ensuring visual coherence across iOS devices while maintaining performance and responsiveness
Real-Time Visual Integration
EōN pairs generative audio with real-time visuals that evolve alongside the music. The visual layer responds to the same algorithmic logic driving the composition, creating a unified audiovisual system. My role included shaping how these visuals are framed, layered, and presented within the interface — ensuring that technology served the artistic intent rather than overpowering it.
The result is a cohesive experience where sound and image exist as one continuous artwork.
Design Philosophy
EōN sits at the intersection of art, software, and sensory experience. The project required translating an experimental musical concept into a tangible, intuitive digital product. It demanded sensitivity to artistic expression while maintaining clarity, usability, and technical feasibility.
The outcome is not simply an app, but an evolving digital artwork — a meditative space where music and visuals remain in perpetual transformation. EōN stands as a reflection of limitless creativity and demonstrates how thoughtful interaction design can deepen the relationship between technology and human experience.
